Learning Through Connection
At Madison Grove Farm, we believe some of the most meaningful learning happens when we slow down and spend time with horses. Through equine-assisted learning, guided observation, groundwork, and experiences at liberty, we invite people to explore connection, trust, communication, and self-awareness.
Our horses are not here to perform or meet expectations. They are individuals with their own relationships, personalities, and choices. Their well-being always comes first, and our programs are built around respecting that.
All experiences are offered free of charge, by appointment, in a welcoming environment for people of different ages, backgrounds, and abilities.
Individual Experiences | Time With the Herd
A Different Kind of Connection
You don't need to know anything about horses to spend time with us. Some people come with years of horse experience, while others have never stood beside one. Everyone begins right where they are.
An individual experience might include sitting quietly with the herd, observing how horses communicate, grooming, walking together, or simply sharing space. There is no set agenda and nothing you are expected to accomplish. We take our time, pay attention, and let the experience unfold naturally.
We work at the pace of both the person and the horse. The horses are free to choose whether and how they participate, and those choices are an important part of what we can learn together.
Individual experiences generally last about 90 minutes and are offered free of charge, by appointment.
Group Experiences | Learning Together With the Herd
Learning Through Shared Experience
There is something to be learned from spending time with a herd of horses. Each horse has a personality, preferences, relationships, and a place within the group. When we take the time to observe them, we begin to notice how they communicate, establish boundaries, respond to change, and make room for one another.
Our group experiences bring people together for guided observation, equine-assisted learning, and shared reflection. Participants are invited to slow down, pay attention, and consider what they notice in the horses and in themselves.
Some groups spend time quietly observing the herd, while others participate in facilitated activities, discussions, or experiences at liberty. We don't ask the horses to perform for us. Their choice to participate, approach, or simply remain with their herd is respected throughout the experience.
We welcome community organizations, youth groups, veterans, families, and people of different ages and abilities. Each gathering is thoughtfully planned around the needs of the participants and the well-being of the horses.
All experiences are offered free of charge and scheduled by appointment.
Our Approach | The Horse Has a Choice
Respecting the Horse as an Individual
At Madison Grove Farm, every horse is an individual. Each comes with a history, personality, preferences, and relationships within the herd. We take the time to understand who they are and adapt our approach to what each horse needs, rather than expecting every horse to respond in the same way.
Our work draws from different approaches to horsemanship, including groundwork, positive reinforcement, and liberty work. Observation is always part of the process. We pay attention to how horses communicate, what makes them comfortable, and when they need more time or space. Whenever possible, they have the freedom to approach, participate, or walk away.
We bring that same philosophy into our experiences with people. Learning to recognize a horse's choices, respect boundaries, and build trust without forcing an outcome can teach us a great deal about our own relationships. The horse's well-being comes first, and that is what guides everything we do.
Whether you're interested in spending time with the herd, bringing your family, or exploring an experience with a group, we'd love to welcome you to Madison Grove Farm.
You don't need any experience with horses. Just come with an open mind, a little curiosity, and a willingness to see what these remarkable animals have to share.
Thanks to our donors and volunteers, all experiences are offered free of charge and scheduled by appointment. Reach out and let's find a time for you to visit.
